Job Description:
RHC Physician and Medical DirectorDelivers appropriate care in a n outpatient primary care setting to patients and families in the clinic, hospital, and nursing home following established standards and practices.
Provides consultation and collaboration to Nurse Practitioners and Physician Assistants employed by the hospital.
Serving as the RHC Medical Director, you are responsible for establishing, maintaining, and enforcing acceptable professional and ethical standards of the facility's medical staff according to its policies, procedures, philosophy, and objectives.
Assists clinic leadership in assuring that the facility meets all related local, state, federal, and accreditation-body rules, and regulations.
Assists clinic leadership in coordinating and directing patient care in the facility according to adopted policies/procedures, state and federal regulations, and accepted accreditation standards.
Servies as a liaison between the medical staff and McPherson Hospital Administration.
The individual in this position reports to the Chief Operating Officer.
Position
Qualifications:
Graduate of an accredited medical school and successful completion of an accredited residency.
MD or DO current license in the State of Kansas.
o Minimum of five years of clinical medical practice experience o Previous experience as a medical Director or other leadership role preferred.
Essential Skills and
Experience:
o Board certified in area of specialty.
o Is available to provide face-to-face services to RHC patients; must see at least one patient per year.
o Maintains medical malpractice insurance at the required levels of coverage.
o Maintains current medical staff membership at the RHC's parent hospital if the RHC is provider-based.
o Must possess strong leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills.
o Effective interpersonal relationship skills including good listening and communication skills.
o Ability to communicate effectively in a variety of settings and with a wide variety of people and different organizations levels.
o Ability to develop effective relations with various providers.
o Ability to effectively supervise employees.
o Ability to handle confidential information discreetly and appropriately.
o Ability to adapt resources to meet the needs of the situation.
o Ability to develop and implement plans for program/clinic operations.
o Knowledge of administration principles and the ability to apply them in a changing healthcare environment.
General:
o Provides medical directorship for the clinic's healthcare activities, consultation for, and medical supervision of the healthcare staff.
o Participates in developing, executing, and periodically reviewing the rural health clinic written operational and medical management policies, including the policy review required as part of the biennial evaluation process.
o Actively and personally interacts with the clinic providers and licensed medical staff frequently enough to provide medial duration, consultation, and supervision per federal and state requirements; is available through direct telecommunications for consultation, medical emergencies, or patient referral in compliance with federal and state supervisions and collaborative requirements; and can issue orders and provide direct patient care services in the RHC, if needed.
o Periodically reviews the clinic's medical records and reviews nurse practitioner or physician assistant charts per 42 CFR 491 and state requirements for appropriateness of care and completeness.
if there is no state requirement the RHXC regulation must still be followed concerning a minimum number of charts to be reviewed by a physician.
o Enters into and maintains a collaborative practice agreement with nurse practitioners and supervision relationships with physician assistants, as is or if applicable to state scope of proactive regulations.
o Participates in the development and execution of quality initiatives and performance improvement activities as required by federal or state agencies and/or by the RHC Administration.
o Provides medical directorship at the same local of participation and within a comparable scope and nature as do other hospital department medical directors if the RHC is provider-based.
o Participates in periodic performance evaluation of nurse practitioner and physician assistant including evaluation of clinical competencies.
o Participates in other activities, committee meetings and staff meetings as required by the hospital (if provider-based) or the RHC including the annual program evaluation meeting.
o Ensures the establishment, maintenance, continuing improvement, and enforcement of acceptable professional and ethical standards and performance of the medical staff and patient-care personnel.
o Reports to hospital and clinic leadership regarding the quality and efficiency of medical care provided and follows appropriate peer review process.
o Oversees medial issues of day-to-day operations.
o Supports administrative decisions and activities affecting patient care.
Medical Staff:
Serves as a liaison between the medical staff and McPherson Hospital Administration.
