Summary:
Responsible for the operations, maintenance and support of VMWare virtual servers. Serves as a technical expert for other members of the Infrastructure team.
Responsible for Design, Testing, Installation, Support, and Maintenance of all core IT Infrastructure Devices and Systems as defined by the Infrastructure Supervison. The security of all related systems is also a core component of this role.
Secondary responsibilities include: basic desktop deployment and help desk activates as determined by the Infrastructure Supervisor.
Primary Duties and
Responsibilities:
Serve as a VMWare Administrator - performing installation, hardening, configuration and maintenance of ESXi hosts and virtual guest servers during a moderately sized physical to virtual migration on EqualLogic infrastructure.
Support VCenter Operations Manager and leverage it as a tool to monitor the VMWare implementation.
Install and administer Microsoft Operating Systems, firmware patches supplied by vendors and security or update patches as required (primary Windows Server 2008 R2).
Serve as a technical advisor to company users and professionals and maintain open positive communications with clients.
Work on major severity and complex server issues.
Backup and restore VMWare servers and virtual sessions.
Identify and recommend improvements to existing processes.
Support cluster/disaster recovery and ensure continuous availability of business-critical applications.
Troubleshoot performance and availability problems.
Determine and build Virtual Server Host and Guest systems and appropriately size and configure for optimal use.
Provide primary logistical support to our Campus Networking Environment both wired and wireless.
Basic
Qualifications: (required)
Bachelor's degree (B. A.) or equivalent in Computer Science or related field and 3
years of equivalent experience; or 10
years of experience in computer technology.
Must possess a high level of knowledge in specifying, configuring and moving PC service systems into service and have the ability to keep systems reliable, patched and current.
Comprehensive vSphere 5 implementation, administration, maintenance, and support of VMware ESX and vCenter in medium scale environment.
Experience with Physical to Virtual (P2V) and Virtual to Virtual (V2V) migrations.
Able to apply vCenter, ESX, and Windows patches/upgrades.
Manage vCenter ESX clusters, including DRS and HA configurations.
Comprehensive vCenter networking concepts including trunking, VLANs.
Comprehensive storage configuration experience including boot from SAN, VMFS volumes, and RDM.
Must have intermediate or higher level networking knowledge.
Able to plan, coordinate, and communicate with internal and external IT customers.
Must be able to manage projects from inception to completion.

MCP OR MCSE
Cisco or equivalent generic network certifications
Network Security certifications
EqualLogic SAN's and Performance Tuning of SAN's
Commvault Simpana
VMware Certified Profession (VCP) or higher (VCAP, VCDX)
